This entry was filmed during a recent camp at Guide Dogs Victoria. The group is made up of blind and vision impaired Victorian primary school aged children who attended the camp.
The theme of the camp was “The Voice” with all camp activities revolving around the kids learning skills and practising using their voices to speak up for themselves about their needs and/or to gain information about their environment.
During the camp a music teacher volunteered her time to come along and help the students to write a song. The kids talked about how they use their voices and the sorts of mobility tasks that they can achieve and used this to each write a line for the song. The students supported each other to come up with ideas and helped each other to remember the words and know when it was their turn to sing. They all had a fabulous time learning and practising the song together. They also enjoyed performing the song over the PA system at Guide Dogs Victoria during a mock radio show and performing it for the parents, friends and siblings that came along to the wrap up session as the camp came to a close.
